Have You Checked Out Edutopia ?
The mission of a wonderful foundation called Edutopia is clear. They are dedicated to improving the k-12 learning process through innovative, replicable and evidence-based strategies that prepare students to thrive n their studies, careers and adult lives.
Their vision is of a new world of learning, a place where students and parents, teachers and administrators, policy makers and the people they serve are all empowered to change education for the better. They envision a place where schools provide rigorous project-bases learning, social -emotional learning, and access to new technology; a place where innovation is the rule, not the exception; a place where students become life long learners and develop 21st century skills. They consider three particular skills to be the foundation of this vision: how to find information; how to assess the quality of information; how to creatively and effectively use information and community connections to make it a reality.
I love Edutopia! It seems to fit my vision of what education can be for all children, teachers and schools. It is so encouraging to see organizations like this supporting teachers, schools and children. Please check these resources listed below out. Edutopia has a huge website with many groups that you can join.
George Lucas started a wonderful blog in 2014 called Why Teachers Matter and I highly recommend it. For some other powerful and informational resources, check out Join the Movement to Transform Learning: A Guest Blog by George Lucas (2011). Talking Heads and Hearts: Intellectual and Emotional Education Make a Potent Pairing is a riveting video (2008).
Edutopia is growing dramatically which points to the wonderful reality that people across the country are supporting a positive change in education that we can all be part of.
